Intense wind gusts at the port of Granadilla de Abona, in Tenerife, are making disembarkation operations difficult for the remaining passengers of the cruise ship MV Hondius, which is in the final phase of a repatriation effort following a hantavirus outbreak.

The operation to evacuate some of the 28 passengers returning to the Netherlands has been impacted by the sudden increase in wind intensity. This situation has caused the vessel MV Hondius to spin, complicating approach and disembarkation maneuvers.
Despite the arrival of UME vehicles for transfer, passengers have not been able to disembark immediately. A tugboat had to intervene to stabilize the MV Hondius and ensure the evacuation could proceed safely.
The cruise ship arrived in Tenerife waters last Sunday, after several days of monitoring due to the hantavirus outbreak. Since its arrival, it has remained anchored near Granadilla, where a health and logistics operation has been implemented to transfer travelers in groups to their repatriation flights.
The first evacuations took place on Sunday, using auxiliary boats to transport passengers ashore and then to the airport. The 14 Spanish citizens on board were transferred to the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital in Madrid, where they remain isolated and under health surveillance, with a quarantine that could extend up to 42 days.
