The ‘Verano con Raíces’ program, promoted by the Citizen Participation department of Granadilla de Abona, has come to an end. The initiative aimed to foster the knowledge, conservation, and dissemination of the traditions, customs, and cultural expressions of the Canary Islands through participatory and educational activities.
Throughout July and August, various thematic workshops were held at the M3 Multifunctional Center in El Médano and the youth center in Los Abrigos. Participants had the opportunity to discover and learn about manifestations of Canarian popular culture, including painting on tiles and 'pintaderas' (Canarian stamps), traditional sewing, playing Canarian folk instruments, traditional games, and cold painting and ceramics.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Adaisy Arias Pérez, expressed gratitude for the involvement and enthusiasm of the attendees, emphasizing the importance of these activities in bringing Canarian cultural heritage closer to new generations and fostering values such as creativity and coexistence.
Furthermore, the ‘Granadilla con su Cultura’ program, which began in June and paused in July, will resume its activities starting September 1st. This initiative will bring cultural and participatory activities to practically all neighborhoods of the municipality, making culture present in every corner of Granadilla de Abona.
The department encourages residents to actively participate in this program, understanding that culture is lived and built from the neighborhoods. Councilor Adaisy Arias stated the desire for a participatory Granadilla, proud of its roots, assuring that work will continue to be close to the neighborhoods and generate activities that keep traditions alive.
