The Hondius vessel, which has reported a hantavirus outbreak, has docked at the port of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife) to disembark its passengers, despite initial opposition from the Canary Islands Government.

The ship arrived at the Granadilla de Abona dock around 6:00 AM (Canarian local time) on Sunday. Its anchoring and subsequent disembarkation are proceeding against the stance expressed by the regional president, who had voiced disagreement with the operation.
The regional president had stated that he would not authorize the ship's anchoring, although he acknowledged that jurisdiction over ports of general interest does not fall under the autonomous community. The operation is designed to be as swift as possible, aiming to anchor, evaluate passengers, disembark them, and facilitate their air transfer.

"If the State wants to impose it, as it has done so far, let it impose it, but we are not going to authorize it."

The primary concern of the Canary Islands Government, expressed on Saturday night, was the potential delays in the repatriation of some passengers. According to the management, not all countries would send planes to Tenerife-South Airport this Sunday, which could extend operations until Monday.
The Directorate General of the Merchant Marine issued a resolution supporting assistance to the MV Hondius, thereby allowing its entry and the arrangements for the affected passengers' disembarkation.
