The Tenerife bookstore El Barco de Papel, located in El Sauzal, has taken a significant step by launching its own publishing label, Editorial B de Papel, and is now preparing to inaugurate its first literary awards by the end of the year.

On May 24th, the bookstore organized an event at the Linaje del Pago winery, also in El Sauzal, to present the first four titles published by its new editorial house. The event was attended by dozens of people, including Canarian authors, to support this project that began in November 2025.
The initial publications are Llantos de sirena by Yolanda Espinosa, A ti y a mí nos unió el volcán by Gara Alom, El monstruo cobarde by Diego and David Reinfeld, and Triana 1899 by Annika Brunke. These authors were present to discuss their works with readers.
Editorial B de Papel received approximately 800 manuscripts for its first call for submissions. Following the selection of these initial four titles, two more books are expected to be published before the end of 2026. A spokesperson for the team highlighted the importance of this venture in bringing culture to the northern part of the island.
Yolanda Espinosa, a member of the bookstore's team, presented Llantos de sirena, describing it as a work in poetic prose that addresses unexpressed feelings and aims for reader identification.
Diego Reinfeld, accompanied by his brother David, who illustrated the book, presented El monstruo cobarde. Reinfeld emphasized that the book, which deals with fear and human relationships, is suitable for all ages and fosters connection through reading.
Gara Alom shared details about A ti y a mí nos unió el volcán, a love story set during the Tajogaite eruption on La Palma, with a distinct Canarian character. The author lamented the historical shame some islanders felt in expressing their local identity.
Lastly, Annika Brunke introduced Triana 1899, a crime investigation novel based on a real murder that occurred in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1899, inspired by the press of the era.
The bookstore also announced the upcoming establishment of the Premios B de Papel (B de Papel Awards), which will be presented at the end of the year. The jury will consist of the bookstore's customers, who will decide the winners in categories such as Best Book of the Year, Best Children's and Young Adult Book, and Best Canarian Author Book.
