The municipality of Ingenio, on Gran Canaria, will be the venue for a new edition of the ULPGC's Ethnography and Folklore Campus, taking place from July 13 to 28, coinciding with the International Folklore Festival.

The 'Solidarity Showcase of Peoples' International Folklore Festival, now in its 31st edition, will be held in Ingenio from July 13 to 28. This multicultural event will include the thirteenth edition of the Ethnography and Folklore Campus, organized by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). The initiative, promoted by the Ingenio Coros y Danzas Cultural Association and the Ingenio City Council, aims to be a meeting point for cultural diversity.
Groups from Armenia, Bulgaria, Ivory Coast, Greece, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Spain, and the Canary Islands will participate, representing Asia, Europe, America, and Africa. The festival will showcase traditional dances and popular music from these regions. The event's program in Ingenio also includes exhibitions, folklore parades, workshops on traditional games, gastronomic tastings, and a closing show on July 25 at the Néstor Álamo Park.
The Ethnography and Folklore Campus will commence on July 13 at 7:30 PM in the council chamber of the Ingenio town hall. Until July 17, the campus will focus on deeply rooted popular traditions from the island of Tenerife, featuring talks, wine tastings, round tables, and a Children's Festival of Traditions. The festival, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Canary Islands, will also present the exhibition 'Corner of Trades,' dedicated this time to traditional carpentry.
The program presentation took place on Wednesday, July 8, at the ULPGC rectorate. Attendees included the Rector of the ULPGC, Lluís Serra; the Vice-Rector for Culture, Sport, and Society of the ULPGC, José Miguel Álamo; the president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales; the mayoress of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín; and the festival director, David Castellano.

"When we talk about folklore, we refer to the memory of peoples, their collective heritage, a living heritage that demands study and dissemination. This festival acts as a bridge of cultures, turning Ingenio into a space for the expression of cultural exchange. Cultural diversity will never be a barrier between peoples."
