Traffic on the GC-1, one of Gran Canaria's main arteries, was severely affected on Tuesday morning. The incident, which involved several vehicles including a school transport bus, occurred near the water treatment plant, a section known for its high traffic density.
This event has generated significant traffic jams extending along the highway and its access links from Telde and nearby municipalities. Vehicle queues reach the Carrizal area, significantly complicating the commute for thousands of drivers heading to the capital of Gran Canaria early in the morning.
Emergency services, including firefighters, the Guardia Civil, police units, and ambulances from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), quickly mobilized to the accident scene. According to the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112, one woman sustained minor injuries, experiencing chest pain, and was transferred to Hospital San Roque for medical evaluation.
Fortunately, all minors traveling on the school bus were unharmed and did not require medical assistance. The traffic collapse has also extended into Telde, where many drivers have opted for alternative routes, causing congestion in other areas of the municipality. Emergency and traffic services continue to work to remove the involved vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
