The National Police are investigating whether a 50-year-old man, who robbed a hair salon in the historic center of San Juan, in Telde, last Friday, could be linked to two other robberies committed in the southeast of Gran Canaria. The suspect was arrested just three hours after the assault.
The incident occurred around 2:00 PM, when the individual entered the establishment and threatened the owner with what appeared to be a firearm to steal the day's takings, amounting to approximately 140 euros. The victim attempted to prevent the robbery by struggling with the assailant.
After fleeing the scene on foot, concealing his identity with a cap and glasses, several witnesses observed him getting into a parked vehicle nearby. The swift police investigation, based on information from the victim and witnesses, allowed for the rapid identification and location of the alleged perpetrator.
The Economic and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Local Police Station successfully arrested the individual and recovered the simulated firearm, ammunition, and clothing used during the assault. The vehicle used in the escape was also located.
The investigation remains open to determine the detainee's possible connection to other robberies of a similar nature in the southeastern area of the island. The arrested individual has been handed over to the competent judicial authority. Authorities have reiterated the importance of citizen collaboration in preventing and solving crimes.
