Arucas Recognizes Distinguished Personalities and Institutions with Municipal Honors

The Arucas City Council will bestow 18 distinctions, including Favorite Sons/Daughters, Gold and Silver Medals, in a ceremony on June 24.

The Arucas City Council is preparing to host its traditional Act of Honors and Distinctions on June 24, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, where the work of 18 personalities and institutions will be recognized.

The Plenary Session of the City Council has approved the granting of six titles of Favorite Sons/Daughters, one Adoptive Daughter, one Honorary Member, seven Gold Medals, and three Silver Medals. These awards aim to highlight individuals and entities from the business, educational, economic, cultural, and social spheres who have significantly contributed to the progress of the municipality of Arucas.
Among the Favorite Sons/Daughters are figures such as a president of a newspaper publishing company, an entrepreneur with interests in the tourism, agricultural, and construction sectors, and a teacher with a long career. Two architects and entrepreneurs who promoted urban development in Arucas and on the island of Gran Canaria will also be recognized posthumously.
Additionally, two municipal workers will be honored for their dedication to public service. One, a senior special technician at the Municipal Museum. Casa Gourié and former director of the Historical Heritage Office, will be named Favorite Daughter for her work in local art and history. The other, for her involvement in the Arucas Municipal Library and literary and cultural projects, will receive the title of Adoptive Daughter.
A former Canarian minister of democracy and former president of the National Securities Market Commission will be named Honorary Member. The Gold Medals will be awarded to various associations, including two women's associations for their fight for equality, one for its social work with children with autism spectrum disorder, and several local businesses with a long history and commitment to the community.
Finally, the Silver Medals will recognize an artisanal industry pioneering in innovation, a folk group for promoting the name of Arucas and its folklore, and posthumously, a distinguished writer and plastic artist.
