BALEYA is an innovative dance-theater piece with flamenco influences that places ecofeminism at the heart of the stage. Inspired by the grave threat facing the oceans, now the planet's largest landfill, the work features unique costumes crafted from real waste. These materials were collected from the Cabo de Gata–Níjar Natural Park in collaboration with Basurama.
The performance denounces the tyranny of beauty and draws parallels between marine pollution and the aesthetic pressure on women, symbolizing plastics in the oceans and 'plastic women'. Through humor, strong visual impact, and a hybrid language, BALEYA transforms critique into movement.
Awarded the 2nd prize at the VIII Andalusian Competition of Art and Recycling.
The work will be presented at the Plaza de Canarias, located in the central area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, between the El Muelle shopping center and Mesa y López avenue. This space, which has hosted various events, is situated above «El intercambiador», a bus station.
Performances will take place on Sunday, September 20th, with shows at 1:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
