The Spanish Association Against Cancer in Las Palmas celebrates its sixth Summer Camp edition, from June 25th to 28th, in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, for 29 minors who are relatives of cancer patients.

A total of 29 children aged between 8 and 14, from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, and Fuerteventura, will participate in the sixth edition of the Summer Camp organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the province of Las Palmas. The initiative will take place from June 25th to 28th at the sailing school in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.
For four days, the minors will enjoy sports and recreational activities such as sailing, kayaking, and paddle surfing, designed to promote their physical and emotional well-being. The main objective of the camp, which is completely free, is to provide a space for respite and disconnection for children who live closely with the reality of cancer through a family member.
The coexistence with other minors going through similar situations aims to strengthen their self-esteem, autonomy, and social skills in a safe environment. In addition to leisure activities, workshops and dynamics focused on emotional management will be held, helping participants express their feelings and healthily cope with their family circumstances.
The camp will be supported by a team consisting of four monitors, one volunteer, a social worker, and a psychologist from the Spanish Association Against Cancer to ensure the minors' well-being.

"We are committed to promoting initiatives like this, also aimed at the families of cancer patients."

Pedro Lara · President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Las Palmas

"This is an opportunity for the children to have an enriching experience outside their usual environment and for families to have a much-needed space for respite."

Meri Alemán · Coordinator of Patients and Users of the Association in Las Palmas
The realization of this activity has been possible thanks to the collaboration of Fundación Satocan Júnguel San Juan, Fundación DISA, and Aguas de Firgas. The camp is consolidated as a tool for well-being, hope, and personal growth for dozens of Canary Islands minors.
