The political party Coalición Canaria (CC) has announced it will present a proposal at the upcoming Cabildo of Gran Canaria plenary session to demand the execution of works that guarantee safe pedestrian access to the IES José Frugoni Pérez, located in Telde. The party denounces that over 700 students daily access the educational center via an unapproved path, walking alongside the GC-100 road, an insular route that registers traffic exceeding 5,000 vehicles per day.
The spokesperson for CC in the insular corporation, Vidina Cabrera, and the local secretary in Telde, Carmen Vega, highlighted the problem affecting the educational community during a visit to the area. Cabrera urged the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo, Augusto Hidalgo, to take action regarding this situation that endangers the students.
CC criticizes that, despite commitments made over two years ago by the insular head of Public Works to condition a safer path, the actions have been limited to replacing a small fence with a guardrail. According to Carmen Vega, this measure is insufficient, and the promised second phase of action has not materialized, leaving the safety situation practically unchanged.
The nationalist party believes that the Cabildo has failed to meet its commitments to the students' families and the educational center's management, perpetuating a situation of risk for minors at one of the institute's access points.
