The demonstration, which began at San Telmo Park at 9:30 AM, served as a platform to call for equality and quality working conditions across the archipelago. The event was attended by the union's national leadership, who emphasized the need to strengthen collective bargaining across all sectors.
During the event, the paradox of the current labor market was highlighted. While employment figures show historic records and average wages have increased, the reality for many families remains defined by precariousness and low-quality jobs. According to union representatives, purchasing power continues to be eroded by rising prices.
“"It is unacceptable that Canary Islanders spend more than half of what they earn on paying rent or abusive mortgages."
The union has called for unity to intensify collective bargaining efforts. The goal is to ensure that workers in Canary Islands can access decent housing without having to allocate the majority of their monthly income to cover rent or mortgage costs.
