The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, has confirmed that extensive police monitoring is being carried out on illegal races in the Díaz Casanova urbanization, expecting positive outcomes.

The mayor responded to journalists' questions during her visit to the San Juan neighborhood, following a new episode of illegal races that occurred on Saturday night into Sunday in the Díaz Casanova industrial area. Darias emphasized that the primary response to this problem focuses on police control.

"There has been an intervention by the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in collaboration with the National Police. We are conducting significant monitoring, and we hope this monitoring continues to yield important and positive results."

Although she did not offer specific details on future actions, the mayor assured that all possible measures would be analyzed, including the organization and management of prevention. She stressed the importance of acting, preventing, and intervening to address the situation comprehensively.
Meanwhile, the Popular Party in the City Council issued a statement this Tuesday, demanding the urgent implementation of preventive measures in the Díaz Casanova industrial park. The party highlighted that the recent incident has reignited the discomfort and exasperation of businesses operating in the area.

"What happened is not an isolated incident, but the repetition of a long-standing problem, to which the City Council remains reactive rather than preventive, as evidenced by the countless times emergency services have responded to vehicle concentrations."

Jimena Delgado · PP Spokesperson in the City Council
The popular spokesperson, Jimena Delgado, acknowledged the work of the Local Police in these situations but criticized the municipal government's political management, pointing out its inability to establish effective preventive measures despite the history of incidents. The Popular Group recalled that the Díaz Casanova urbanization has been the scene of numerous episodes of illegal races, reckless driving, and accidents with serious injuries, representing an unacceptable risk for an industrial area with dozens of businesses and hundreds of workers.
