The town of Teror served as the setting for the conclusion of Pope León XIV's historic visit to the Canary Islands, with a deeply emotional Thanksgiving Mass. The square featured the presence of two of the island's most revered effigies: the Virgen del Pino and the Santo Cristo de Telde.
During the Eucharist, Bishop Mazuelos reiterated his gratitude to the Holy Father for his presence, an event that has allowed the Santo Cristo de Telde to visit the Villa Mariana for the first time. The gathering of these two images, which also occurred last Thursday at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, has been considered an event of great significance for the popular religiosity of the Canary Islands.
The day in Teror was intense from early morning, with several Eucharists celebrated throughout the day. In the afternoon, a testimony gathering allowed attendees to share their experiences of the Holy Father's visit. The program culminated with the solemn Thanksgiving Mass in the crowded Nuestra Señora del Pino square.
Through this Mass, the diocese expressed the deep devotion of the Canarian people to the Santo Cristo de Telde and the Virgen del Pino, and gave thanks for the spiritual fruits that the Pope's visit will leave to renew the evangelizing commitment of the church in the islands.
This encounter in Teror marks a milestone, being the first time the effigy of the Santo Cristo de Telde has been in the Villa Mariana, following its first historic meeting with the Virgen del Pino in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on June 10, 2000, and a subsequent meeting in Telde on June 5, 2025.
