The Department of Public Works, Infrastructure, Architecture, and Housing of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria will carry out demolition and removal work on several large rocks that pose a risk of falling onto the road. This operation will necessitate the closure of the GC-100, which links Telde and Ingenio, in the section between the neighborhoods of Cuatro Puertas and Aguatona.
The need for this intervention arose after technicians from the road maintenance company detected several large, cracked stones with the potential to detach and roll onto the GC-100 roadway. The closure will extend from kilometer point 15.7, at the beginning of the section crossing the Draguillo ravine, to kilometer 16.8, at the entrance to Aguatona.
During the closure hours, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, traffic diversions will be in place. Drivers coming from Telde towards Ingenio will be rerouted via Cuatro Puertas, Ojos de Garza, and the GC-1. Conversely, those traveling from Ingenio to Telde will be directed to the GC-1 via El Carrizal. Communications have been sent to the affected municipalities, and informational signs have been placed along the road.
To remove the rocks, an excavator will be used to chip away at the slope in a controlled manner. To protect the asphalt, a layer of earth will be spread beforehand as a cushion. After the rocks are removed, the road surface will be cleaned before it is reopened to traffic.
The Department of Public Works requests the utmost cooperation from drivers and asks them to follow the instructions provided by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria personnel working in the area.
