These distinctions, proposed by the president of the Government of Canarias, are granted to individuals and entities who have excelled in their work for the benefit of the community, their fight for equality, and their empathy towards those in vulnerable situations.
The awards ceremony will take place on May 30, coinciding with Canarias Day, at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. During the same event, the Canarias Awards will be presented, which this year go to the Canarian MAIN Foundation (Altruistic and Solidarity Actions), a graphic humorist and illustrator (Communication), and an architect (International).
Among those honored with the Gold Medals are prominent figures in music, such as Braulio, whose career has enriched the cultural identity of the archipelago. Recognition is also given to an honorary president of a financial institution, for their vision and commitment to the sustainable development of the region.
The Casa de Galicia in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is another awarded entity, for its deep social commitment since its founding in 1951, notably for its solidarity initiatives. In the sports field, a contact sports icon is recognized for his international achievements and his connection to Canarian wrestling.
The historic brand Ron Arehucas, founded in 1884 in Arucas, also receives a medal for its trajectory and its role as a benchmark in Canarian society. Posthumously, a universal Canarian, a key figure in the approval of equal marriage in Spain and an international reference for civil rights, is recognized.
The Ámate association is honored for its fundamental support to those facing a breast cancer diagnosis, offering advice and companionship. Another posthumous recognition is for an educator and cultural and sports promoter, founder of a school and counselor at the Cabildo de Tenerife.
An expert in traditional Canarian attire, a professor and member of the Sectoral Council of Traditional Clothing of the Cabildo de Tenerife, is awarded for her contribution to the preservation and dissemination of this legacy. The Canarian Nursing Colleges are recognized for their professionalism and humanity, especially after the pandemic.
Finally, the In Corpore Sano Sports Club from El Hierro is distinguished for its work in promoting sports as a driver of inclusion and values, with educational and solidarity projects. The Danza de las Cintas de Güímar, a tradition documented since 1788, also receives a medal for its cultural value and its roots in religious traditions.
