The incident occurred this morning when officers in a patrol car observed two motorcyclists riding side-by-side. Upon detecting police presence, both performed evasive maneuvers. Officers signaled them to stop using acoustic and visual warnings.
One of the drivers complied and stopped, but the other ignored the order and accelerated to evade the officers. According to the police report, the motorcyclist then began a high-speed escape, swerving through traffic and driving recklessly, showing clear disregard for the safety of other road users.
The pursuit continued until the driver entered a pedestrian crossing at high speed, having to swerve to avoid several pedestrians, including minors who were leaving a nearby football field at that moment. Unable to follow by vehicle due to traffic, the officers continued the chase on foot.
One of the officers managed to catch up to the motorcycle and grab it from behind, urging the driver to stop. However, instead of complying, the motorcyclist accelerated again, dragging the officer, who fell to the ground and suffered hand injuries, in addition to damage to his uniform.
The driver managed to continue his escape and was eventually lost from sight by the officers near Arjona Umpiérrez Street. Subsequently, the individual was identified by the Local Police. The report indicated that he lacked a driving license and that the motorcycle he was riding had no valid insurance or mandatory technical inspection.
