Over 200 residents and students from the Juan Rodríguez Doreste Popular University in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria celebrated Canaries Day with island music, folklore, and traditions.

The Juan Rodríguez Doreste Popular University, at its Southern Cone headquarters, organized a festive day to commemorate Canaries Day. The event brought together over 200 people, including residents and students, to celebrate the archipelago's music, folklore, and traditions. This initiative is part of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council's program aimed at promoting and disseminating Canarian identity.
The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Nina Santana, attended the gathering. Under the slogan ‘Celebrating Canaries Day. Tradition and Island Pride’, the event included an activity with the students and faculty of the center, which is affiliated with the capital's city council.
The active participation of over 110 students from the Popular University's folklore, singing, and traditional costume workshops was highlighted. The program also featured a performance by the invited group Molino de San Borondón.
This celebration is part of the various initiatives organized by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council for Canaries Day, encompassing cultural, gastronomic, musical, and educational proposals for different audiences. The council also announced the third edition of the Baile de Taifas to be held this Friday in Don Benito Park, in the Schamann neighborhood.
The City Council emphasized that, beyond these specific dates, continuous actions are carried out throughout the year to protect, promote, and disseminate Canarian identity through popular universities and other training and cultural activities promoted by various municipal departments.
