The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council will finalize the tax roll for the new waste fee in June, allowing citizens to request payment in five installments of 30 euros.

Starting next June, residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will begin receiving payment letters for the new waste fee. This mandatory tax, derived from a state obligation, will apply different rates depending on the type of property or activity. For instance, inhabited homes will be charged 149.33 euros, while empty houses will pay 108.45 euros. Other establishments such as bars, restaurants, and supermarkets will also have specific tariffs.
One of the key new features is the possibility of requesting deferred payment. Taxpayers can split the amount into five monthly installments, with a minimum payment of 30 euros each. This option requires payment via bank transfer and that the request be submitted within the voluntary payment period indicated in the notification.

"Taxpayers may request the fractionation of this settlement payment, provided that the request is submitted within the voluntary payment period indicated in the notification."

However, this year, direct debit for periodic receipts or inclusion in the easy payment plan, which offers discounts and up to ten months of installments, will not be allowed. This limitation is because it is the first time this fee is being collected, making it an isolated act rather than a periodic receipt. Direct debit and inclusion in the LPA Easy Payment plan will be available from 2027.
Should a payment letter not be received, citizens must request a copy through the virtual tax office, at taxpayer service offices (by appointment), or via the designated contact phone numbers. The waste fee has been challenged before the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands due to an alleged substantial defect in its processing.
