Nicotine pouches, marketed as a modern and less harmful alternative, pose a significant risk to public health, particularly among young people, due to their high addictive potential and detrimental effects.

The tobacco industry continues to develop addictive products, targeting young audiences. Following tobacco and vapes, nicotine pouches, also known as “nicotine pouches,” are now emerging, marketed as a clean and less harmful option.
Despite not containing tobacco, these pouches release nicotine directly into the body through the oral mucosa. This substance is highly addictive, and repeated use can quickly lead to dependence, particularly affecting young brains, which are more vulnerable to psychoactive substances.
The effects of nicotine are not limited to addiction; they also directly impact the cardiovascular system, increasing heart rate and blood pressure, which in the long term can contribute to the development of heart disease. In young people, whose bodies are still developing, these alterations are exacerbated.
Furthermore, various studies have shown that nicotine can affect brain areas related to attention, learning, impulse control, and emotional regulation. During adolescence, the brain undergoes a critical stage of reorganization, and introducing nicotine can alter neural connections, conditioning cognitive and behavioral development.

"The marketing of these products must be subjected to strong criticism. Sweet or fruity flavors, minimalist design, and promotion on social media contribute to normalizing their use among young people, including minors."

Loreto Gómez Guedes · President of the Official College of Pharmacists of Las Palmas
The rapid introduction of these products into the market makes it difficult to disseminate clear information about their medium and long-term dangers. It is essential to promote education, regulation, and awareness to prevent a new generation from falling into the trap of nicotine dependence under a deceptive appearance of modernity and safety.
