The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is adding a new leisure and thermal relief attraction with the construction of an interactive fountain in Bailarina Trini Burrull park, located in the Siete Palmas neighborhood. This new facility, replacing the old ornamental fountain, aims to promote community interaction and provide a refreshing space against high temperatures.
The works, which have already commenced with the demolition of the existing structure, have been awarded to the company IMESAPI, S.A. for an amount of 204,084.85 euros. The project is funded by the Gran Canaria Island Council's Cooperation Plan with municipalities. This initiative will bring the city's total number of interactive fountains to four.
Driven by the Urban Planning Service and in collaboration with other departments such as Strategic Development and Parks and Gardens, the project design includes a pedestrian aquatic area equipped with 18 jets of variable height. These jets are intended for playful use by citizens, allowing them to interact with the water.
The new fountain will feature integrated RGB LED lighting within the jets, capable of creating various color effects at night. The water system will utilize closed-circuit recirculation and purification to optimize water usage and maintain water quality. Additionally, provisions have been made to potentially use rainwater for filling the reservoir.
The intervention also covers the renovation of hydraulic and electrical infrastructure, as well as necessary civil works. This includes earthmoving, waterproofing, concreting, non-slip paving, and proper management of construction waste.
Urban Planning Councilor Mauricio Roque highlighted that this project represents a step forward in improving public spaces, making them more accessible and modern. Meanwhile, Strategic Development Councilor Gemma Martínez Soliño noted that interactive fountains contribute to creating more vibrant and comfortable cities by promoting outdoor enjoyment and shared spaces.
With this addition, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria expands its network of interactive fountains, joining those already located in Castillo de la Luz park and Las Rehoyas park. Another fountain will soon be inaugurated in La Mayordomía, further enhancing public spaces dedicated to family leisure and urban adaptation to the climate.
