The plenary session of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council ratified this Friday the modification of eleven municipal land plots, changing their status from public facilities to protected housing.

This urban planning measure will allow for the construction of over 1,800 public housing units, a figure that could reach 2,000 depending on the final project specifications. The initiative is based on a technical study by the Municipal Urban Management Society (GEURSA), which identifies suitable land under the framework of the Canary Islands Government Decree-law 1/2024.
The affected land covers a total area of 59,767.98 square meters, distributed across the neighborhoods of Tamaraceite, Las Torres, El Batán, Casablanca III, San Lázaro, and La Minilla. The final selection was adjusted following the analysis of public claims, which initially considered fourteen plots.
The Tamaraceite sector holds the largest available area, with two plots totaling 28,376.32 square meters. Meanwhile, Las Torres incorporates two spaces with 15,736.91 square meters, while the remaining plots in Casablanca III, El Batán, San Lázaro, and La Minilla were enabled following favorable technical reports.
