The urban transformation in Guanarteme is advancing with the tender for the urbanization works around Plaza América for 2,564,493.21 euros. This project will create a large roundabout to extend José Mesa y López avenue over the current Luchana street, later connecting with José Sánchez Peñate avenue.
The roundabout will integrate pedestrian and vehicular traffic from José Mesa y López, Fernando Guanarteme, El Salvador, Mario César, and Habana streets. This urban configuration is part of a push for vertical growth in Guanarteme, with plots reserved for buildings up to sixteen stories high, and includes a pedestrian promenade towards Las Canteras beach.
The urbanization, covering approximately 15,000 square meters, will allocate about 4,000 square meters to new pedestrian spaces, including 1,300 square meters of pavement that reduces polluting gases and a ceramic floor recalling the old ravine. The work, scheduled for twelve months, will be carried out in six phases.
The new development will feature 2,188 square meters of green spaces with 996 plant units of 25 different species, mostly endemic to the Canary Islands. Insect hotels will be installed to promote natural pollination. The project involves relocating one palm tree and preserving another, along with installing 38 new light fixtures and 35 traffic lights.
Councilor for Planning, Mauricio Roque, highlighted that the project, aligned with the General Urban Planning Plan, will complete the connection of José Mesa y López avenue with Guanarteme and improve mobility. He added that the project incorporates innovative solutions for a more accessible, sustainable, and safe public space.
