The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, along with Vice President María Jesús Tovar and the Mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, supervised the final results of the work. The inauguration ribbon was cut by users of the Tinajo Senior Residence, which borders the park and will also serve for their use and enjoyment.
Betancort emphasized that the project clearly reflects the island's model, focusing on sustainability, accessibility, and quality to improve the quality of life for residents and enhance the visitor experience.
Vice President María Jesús Tovar highlighted the significant work done by the technicians and workers from the Planning and Project Coordination area, stating that Tinajo now has a large, accessible open space for residents to enjoy.
Mayor Jesús Machín thanked the Cabildo for fulfilling a long-standing commitment to renovate the César Manrique Park. He noted the integration with the senior residence, the elimination of architectural barriers, the addition of biosaludable equipment, and upcoming improvements like the total renovation of the children's play area, more shade structures, and calisthenics equipment. An outdoor stage for events and a nearby cafeteria are also planned.
The transformation project had an awarded budget of 1,631,212.08 euros, financed through European Next Generation EU funds from the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
Key interventions included the removal of architectural barriers through new adapted accesses, ramps, and fully accessible pathways, along with stairs and protective railings.
The park's landscape has been renewed with paved platforms covering over 3,350 square meters of stamped concrete, delimited planters with native soil and gravel, and the planting of native species adapted to the environment. The new park also features a sports area with a bike lane base and calisthenics area, a new stage for cultural events, and a building designated for a cafeteria. To combat high temperatures and encourage rest, the area has installed 7 wooden and steel pergolas and 6 fixed stainless steel pergolas.
