The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has begun proceedings to reduce terrace operating hours on Sargento Llagas street to 10:00 PM, following a court ruling for noise.

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, through the General Directorate of Building and Activities, has initiated proceedings to reduce the operating hours of terraces in the vicinity of Sargento Llagas street. The proposal aims to limit activity until 10:00 PM.
This measure follows other hourly restrictions already implemented in the city, such as in Joaquín Costa street and Lagunetas in Triana, often in response to court rulings stemming from resident complaints about noise. The general permitted hours by the City Council for terraces are from 8:00 AM to midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and until 1:00 AM on Saturdays and holidays.
The regulation for Sargento Llagas arises from a 2023 ruling that ordered the City Council to compensate 13 affected parties due to inaction regarding noise complaints from two terraces. Following an acoustic study commissioned from the Municipal Urban Management Society (Geursa), the need to reduce hours and reinforce police presence for more civil use of public space was concluded.
Before the restriction becomes final, a hearing process will be opened for the business owners affected by the measure, the decision will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province, and proceedings will be initiated to declare the area a saturated zone for terraces.
