The Police and Firefighters Union (USPB) has announced new protests in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria due to the City Council's persistent failure to pay overtime and other supplements to the Local Police, firefighters, and mobility agents.

The USPB union has expressed its dissatisfaction with the management of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, which has not yet paid the outstanding amounts owed to the security forces. According to Víctor García, general secretary of USPB, the official justification is the adaptation of the payroll to the stabilization of municipal staff.

"From the Police and Firefighters Union, we will consider calling protest rallies in front of the municipal offices in the coming weeks."

Víctor García · General Secretary of USPB
The accumulated debt of the City Council to the security forces amounts to approximately five million euros, according to data provided by the union. This situation has led the USPB to consider demonstrations in front of municipal offices in the coming weeks.
Overtime has not been paid since September 2024, and the union has confirmed that it will not be included in the April payroll either, being postponed, at the earliest, until May. The problem is exacerbated by the large number of events in the city, staff shortages, and the legal limitation that prevents more than 10% of the salary mass from being allocated to overtime.
In detail, the debt to firefighters is estimated at 1.2 million euros, while that to police and mobility agents is around 300,000 euros. Days of free availability for events, which include performances at carnivals, Three Kings Day, and climatic emergencies, have not been paid since October and amount to about 250,000 euros outstanding. General productivity for October, November, and December 2025 will be paid in May.
Although the increase in the destination supplement for the Local Police will be processed retroactively to January 1, 2026, there is no date for its inclusion in the payroll. Variable supplements for Accident Reports and the Armament and Shooting unit will also not be paid in April. Only the variable night and holiday supplements for February will be included in the April payroll.
