The football club UD Las Palmas is nearing an agreement for the renewal of its coach, Luis García Fernández, known as the 'spiritual father' of the new project. After a season where the team narrowly missed the playoff final for promotion to the top tier, a video call between today and tomorrow is expected to seal the continuity of the coach from Oviedo.
Despite some recent reservations and interest from other clubs, such as Elche, everything points towards a favorable outcome for both parties. García Fernández achieved 73 points in the league, although fans expressed discontent over some tactical changes in the semi-final against Málaga. Nevertheless, his season is considered notable, finishing in fifth place.
The coach arrived on the island almost a year ago with little experience in the Second Division and has established himself as one of the category's great sensations, alongside other prominent names like José Alberto López (Racing), Hidalgo (Dépor), Rubi (Almería), or Funes (Málaga CF).
From the Gran Canarian entity, it has been reported that there are three other candidates on standby should the contractual relationship not be extended, but the main expectation is focused on the resolution of García Fernández's continuity.
