A new cafe has opened its doors in the heart of the Schamann neighborhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, offering an innovative proposal that fuses Moroccan gastronomy with traditional Spanish sandwiches.

The establishment, named Bonita Vida, is presented as a space where the aromas of tea blend with the flavors of chicken pastelas, Serrano ham sandwiches, and Moroccan sweets. The initiative seeks to revitalize the area and offer a cultural meeting point through food.

"Schamann needs us not to abandon it, especially after what happened to a local restaurateur recently."

The founder, a resident of Gran Canaria since childhood with Moroccan and Galician roots, conceived the idea for this business after seeing a vacant premises in Don Benito Park. Her vision was to create a cafe that would unite her passion for cooking, her origins, and cultural diversity, with the aim of beautifying the neighborhood and the Ciudad Alta.
The Bonita Vida menu is carefully designed, featuring dishes that evoke family memories, such as chicken tagine and zaalouk salad. Although the main offering focuses on breakfasts and snacks, special Moroccan lunch menus are served on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, highlighting couscous and tagine, always without alcohol, as part of the venue's philosophy.

"Pastelas have become one of the star products. People have realized that it is one of the most elaborate dishes in Moroccan cuisine. It takes a long time. The chicken is slow-cooked, shredded, we peel the almonds by hand, we do everything with a lot of love."

Other popular products include preparations with nuts, dates, cinnamon, and orange blossom, as well as Moroccan msemen, a type of crepe enjoyed with tea. The tea experience is fundamental, served in a particular way to oxygenate it and enhance its properties. The menu also includes country bread sandwiches, with options like Serrano ham, watercress and fresh cheese, or smoked eggplant zaalouk salad, always with hospitality as the main ingredient.
