The decision to extend the deadlines for rehabilitation and new housing construction projects was announced after a multilateral meeting. This means that housing initiatives in Canarias starting before June 2026 will be able to justify their execution until the end of 2028.
“"This implies more than 1,000 new homes in Canarias that will be awarded before December this year and that will be able to be financed with MRR funds. And, on the other hand, everything related to rehabilitation also makes us very optimistic."
The Government of Canarias has been actively working to achieve this extension, aware of the administrative complexity inherent in managing these funds. The Ministry of Finance had previously informed the Governing Council that the execution of MRR funds in the autonomous community stood at 58%.
The difficulty in executing deadlines is a shared challenge, not only for the regional administration but also for the State Government and other communities. In fact, it was recalled that the Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, had recently announced that the state's execution level was 55%.
The extension of deadlines is a demand that has been supported by figures such as the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the Government of Italy, who have requested an additional one-year extension from the European Council for the execution of these important funds.
