The Port Authority of Las Palmas has confirmed receipt of the request to archive the file, which began in May 2021. The project, which intended to occupy an area of 50,000 square meters in the La Esfinge zone, will not proceed due to technical difficulties in meeting the required environmental conditions.
The company was required to submit the initiative to an ordinary environmental impact assessment, a more rigorous procedure than the initial simplified one. This requirement was imposed by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2024 after detecting potential significant adverse effects on the marine environment.

Following the withdrawal, the Port Authority will proceed to definitively archive the file. Currently, the affected land is being used on a temporary basis by the shipping agent Hamilton, located next to the Naviera Armas terminal. The port institution will now conduct an analysis to determine which activities are most suitable for this freed-up space.
