The president of Vox has strongly criticized the Bishop of Canarias, accusing him of profiting from immigration and urging him to closely observe the social repercussions of this phenomenon.

The leader of the political party Vox used the social network X to respond to statements made by the Bishop of Canarias, who had convened an informational meeting to address the migratory reality in the archipelago, in preparation for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV in June.

"Some who profit from illegal immigration should leave the palace and come down to see the consequences it has for Spaniards. For healthcare, security, wages, and taxes."

The bishop had warned about the deadly nature of the Atlantic migratory route to Europe, suggesting that to understand the situation,

"many people should be put in a cayuco for five days, morning and afternoon, without eating, to see how they arrive."

This incident is not the first disagreement between the president of Vox and the ecclesiastical hierarchy regarding immigration. In August of the previous year, the political leader expressed his "perplexity and sadness" over the position of some members of the Church on this issue, and in February, he criticized the "drift" of bishops who questioned his party's stance.
