The Port Authority of Las Palmas announced that the Port of Las Palmas handled almost eight million tons in the first quarter of the year, positioning itself as the fourth busiest port in the Spanish port system. Of this volume, over seven million tons correspond to general cargo, with the remainder distributed between bunkering and fishing.
During March, the port managed 2,615,460 tons, representing a 5.13% increase compared to the same month last year. The cumulative figure for the first three months of the year reached 7,029,991 tons, showing a 5.03% growth. International traffic, which increased by 8.93%, continues to be the main driver for container terminals, accounting for 4.7 million tons.
“"The momentum from containers and transit is crucial for the port's sustained growth, highlighting its role as a redistribution platform."
Container activity, measured in TEUs, also shows strong expansion. In March, 129,435 TEUs were moved, a 17.74% increase from 2025, and the cumulative quarterly total reached 346,371 TEUs, up 6.09%. This growth is observed in both loading and unloading, and particularly in transits, which account for approximately 64% of the total TEUs.
Despite this expansive outlook, some sectors show contrasts. Fuel supply, for instance, experienced a 14.66% drop in March, with 211,033 tons, and a 2.48% decrease cumulatively. However, water supply grew by 6.4% in the last month and 35.39% over the quarter. Ro-Ro traffic, on the other hand, accelerated its growth with a 14.10% increase in March, reaching 23,544 units.
