The Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria arrested a man who was on a ledge eight meters high, with an antenna cable around his neck and throwing burning objects at the officers.

The incident occurred on Doctor Miguel Rosas street, near Santa Catalina park, following a call reporting the presence of an individual on the edge of an apartment block, allegedly intending to jump. Upon arrival, officers attempted to communicate with the man, a Ukrainian national, without success. The individual, ignoring their requests, took papers from his pockets, set them on fire, and threw them towards the police.
Several fire units, an ambulance, and a doctor from the Special Emergency Service were dispatched to the scene to try and interact with the man, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Given the individual's movement along the ledge, officers accessed two apartments, but he moved away from them.
After nearly two hours of dialogue attempts, firefighters forced open the door of an apartment near the man's position. From the fourth floor, they prepared a lifeline system to prevent falls, but the potential threat posed by the individual led local police officers, equipped with harnesses, to undertake the rescue maneuver.
The man stated that if the police left, he would come down. The street was cleared, and taking advantage of a conversation initiated by a firefighter with the individual from an adjacent apartment, officers approached undetected. Upon reaching the required distance, they lunged at him, secured him, and pulled him through a window into an apartment. There, medical personnel administered a sedative before he was taken to the health center and subsequently transferred to the psychiatric unit of the Hospital General de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín.
Later, the owners of the apartment whose door was forced were located; they were returning from a trip off the island. They were informed of the events and told that a patrol would remain guarding the property. The owner of the restaurant below the building was also notified of the damage to his umbrellas caused by the thrown objects, as was the property administrator regarding the damage to the facade from the ripped wiring.
