Since October 2025, strong storms, particularly storm Therese, have altered the physiognomy of La Cícer. This situation has led to a significant loss of dry sand and the unusual emergence of stones and pebbles, which have accumulated extensively in this beach area.
The continuous nature of these weather phenomena has resulted in escarpments up to 1.5 meters high and the appearance of reflective waves, as the sea crashes against the accumulated coarse material. These conditions significantly hinder swimming and surfing in the area.
“"We are fully aware of the disruption this natural situation is causing both bathers and surfing schools, who see their daily activity and immediate future compromised."
In response to this problem, official letters have been sent to the General Directorate of Coasts of the Government of Canarias and the State Coast Demarcation. These documents request an urgent technical visit and an inter-institutional meeting to evaluate and decide on the necessary actions to restore the beach's profile for the summer season.
Additionally, the City of Sea council collaborates with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) within the framework of the 'Investiga en Las Canteras' collaboration agreement, aiming to determine the current state of the seabed.
