The Jerónimo Saavedra Hall of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium witnessed an unprecedented final in the history of Sonora 2026. After a closely contested jury vote, the organization chose to respect the outcome and, instead of seeking a tie-breaker, decided to recognize two absolute champions in the main categories, as well as two runners-up.
This outcome, described by the organization as the “most fiercely contested final in Sonora's history,” resulted in a tie in the Gold category for Los Blody and Good Franco. In the Silver category, the winners were Usted and Belice, while the Sonora Bronze went to the poetry and mestizo folk of Lula Mora. The final featured ten high-quality musical proposals, including Casablanca III, Xerach, Bífidos, Eric Böelle, and Pokzipol Poops.
The prize money for the Gold winners, Good Franco and Los Blody, amounts to 6,000 euros each. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to perform at the Sonora Festival, which will take place on October 16, 17, and 18 in Plaza de Santa Ana, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Silver awardees, Belice and Usted, will each receive 3,000 euros, and the Sonora Bronze prize is endowed with 1,500 euros.
The “Sonora passports” also brought significant news. Good Franco achieved a hat-trick, securing their participation in Sonidos Líquidos in Lanzarote and the Phe Festival in Puerto de la Cruz, in addition to making history by receiving the first passport for recording an EP with the agency Taste The Floor. Los Blody also achieved a hat-trick, with performances in Madrid at the Canarias Tiene el Flow Festival on May 14, at Sonidos Líquidos La Graciosa, and at the Festivalito de La Palma. Other passports include Lula Mora at WOMEX Gran Canaria, Xerach at the Boreal Festival in Tenerife, and Casablanca III at the Herofest in El Hierro. The Gran Canarian trio Bífidos was selected by Salán Producciones for a tour across three cities in mainland Spain.
The event was attended by the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who highlighted “the artistic talent of this land and the enormous quality of the proposals,” and the Culture councilor, who stated that Sonora “is an indispensable part of this city's bid for the European Capital of Culture.” The night also served to pay tribute to the figure of a prominent producer and director, and president of the Sonora jury in 2024, whom the organization recognized as one of the people who most promoted music in the Canary Islands.
