Elderly residents from Telde participated this Thursday in a day of togetherness, culture, and leisure with a visit to the municipality of Arucas. This activity is part of the program organized by the Telde City Council for the International Day of Older Persons.
The day began with a visit to the Church of San Juan Bautista in Arucas. A technician from the Tourism department of the Arucas City Council accompanied the group, providing explanations on the history, architecture, and unique features of the temple, as well as the municipality's heritage.
Following the church visit, participants strolled through the streets and historic center of Arucas, discovering its main points of interest and learning about the municipality's evolution, buildings, and traditions.
The Telde City Council particularly thanked the third deputy mayor and councilor of the Arucas City Council, Santiago Sebastián Guerra Pérez, for the warm welcome extended to the group.
The visit concluded at the Arehucas Rum Factory, where participants learned about the history and tradition of this industry linked to the identity of Arucas, marking the end of a day focused on culture, learning, and togetherness.
The Councilor for Social Services of the Telde City Council, Adela Álvarez, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating, "Our seniors deserve to enjoy, learn, travel, and continue creating memories. These excursions are more than just an outing: they are moments to reconnect with friends, make new ones, and feel like active members of our society."
Álvarez further emphasized, "From the Telde City Council, we want our seniors to be protagonists and find in every activity an opportunity to enjoy life, maintain social connections, and continue learning. The International Day of Older Persons should also serve to recognize all that they have contributed and continue to contribute to our city."
This visit to Arucas is one of three excursions programmed by the Telde City Council for the International Day of Older Persons, aiming to value the role of seniors, foster their social participation, and promote active aging and community relations.
