The neighborhood gathering primarily aimed to show support for Supermercado Hermanos Rogelio, which suffered a violent assault days prior. A spokesperson for the neighborhood association highlighted that the act not only seeks to show solidarity with the establishment's employees but also to denounce the climate of insecurity that has settled in the area.
“"Every day we have more problems and we see people watching houses and cars, while police presence is practically non-existent."
During the intervention, the neighborhood representative warned about the growing concern among residents, who perceive that criminal incidents are no longer isolated events. Neighbors have opted to organize autonomously to alert each other about suspicious movements and prevent new occurrences.
The spokesperson also expressed indignation over the attack suffered by the supermarket workers, allegedly perpetrated by two hooded individuals armed with machetes. It was emphasized that employees, who serve the community daily, do not deserve to face extreme risk situations due to crime.
Another resident highlighted the establishment's importance to the neighborhood, describing it as “Tafira's pantry,” and warned that other businesses could be affected if urgent measures are not implemented. Residents have demanded an immediate response from institutions, including the City Council, the Government Delegation, and the Government of Canarias.
“"We are not going to stand still."
