The Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria premieres the tenth edition of Volcánica this Thursday, July 9, a production that fuses various artistic disciplines inspired by Calderón de la Barca's drama.

The production, a collaboration between Memvus Arte and the Fundación Auditorio y Teatro, offers a contemporary take on Life is a Dream. The performance integrates singing, percussion, dance, and visual arts to explore the dilemmas of freedom and destiny characteristic of the Spanish Golden Age.
Over 140 artists participate in this collective experience under the artistic and musical direction of Yanira Sánchez. The project aims to transform the original text into a shared experience, moving away from the traditional individualistic portrayal of the main character.
The soundscape, designed by Vicente Umpiérrez, plays a key role in the show's structure. Through choral compositions, live instrumentation, and tribal-rooted percussion, the work reinforces the expressive power of the verses, adapting the Baroque drama to a modern aesthetic.
