Telde Celebrates its Romería in Honor of San Juan Bautista

Thousands fill the historic center for a special edition commemorating the city's 675th anniversary.

The city of Telde celebrated its anticipated romería in honor of San Juan Bautista this Saturday, drawing thousands to the historic center. The festival coincides with the commemoration of the city's 675th anniversary.

The festive procession began at Parque Franchy Roca, winding through the main streets of the municipality. Residents and visitors accompanied the floats and folk groups, highlighting the importance of popular festivals as the living memory of the city and its roots.
The route, which included streets such as María Encarnación Navarro, Rivero Bethencourt, Plaza de San Gregorio, Avenida de la Constitución, Poeta Fernando González, Avenida del Cabildo Insular, Rotonda Daora, Manuel Álvarez Peña, Párroco Hernández Benítez, Pérez Camacho, León y Castillo, and Plaza de San Juan, was filled with music, color, and the sound of traditional instruments, uniting generations.
Seven floats representing various collectives and neighborhoods of the municipality showcased Canarian tradition. The float from the Municipality of Telde, accompanied by the Folkloric Group Amigos Isleños and the Dance Group Susurros Isleños, paid homage to the Folías of Gran Canaria. The Neighborhood Association Meclasa, along with the Folkloric Group Ábora and the Dance Group Asaray, presented the Seguidillas of Fuerteventura. The Neighborhood Association Roque Azucarero, with Abenchara, brought the Aires de Lima from Tirajana.
The Senior Center, with Taror and Tamaima, staged the Berlina de San Andrés. Los Diver, accompanied by Ágora and Anzar, offered Fúlgida Luna. The Cumbre District, with El Sedal and Tamaima, showcased the Seguidillas of Gran Canaria. The collective Vecinos de Telde, with Aulaga and Real Manantial, concluded with La Berlina del Escobonal.
An emotional moment occurred in Plaza de San Juan with the traditional offering to the city's patron, where participants presented tokens of devotion. Solidarity also marked the day with the collection of over 1,700 kilograms of food for families in need.
The festive day continued after the romería with the musical event 'Parrandeando' at ten in the evening, featuring performances by the groups El Cura and Los Chanos, followed by the group Una Más.
