The coastline of Telde will once again be the stage for an important sporting event with the celebration of the 17th Salinetas Open Water Swim 2026 Dolores Álvarez. This race, part of the municipality's sporting history, returns to the calendar after an eight-year break with the aim of re-establishing itself as a benchmark for open water swimming in the Canary Islands.
The competition, organized by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports of the Telde City Council in collaboration with the Club Costa Este, will commence at 10:30 AM. Participants will cover 1,500 meters in open water, starting from Melenara beach, heading towards Taliarte, and finishing at Salinetas beach, offering a chance to enjoy the municipality's valuable coastline.
Registration remains open until this Friday, September 4th, or until the quota of 300 swimmers is reached. Registrations must be completed through the Sports Department's website (deportes.telde.es). The minimum age for participation is 14 years, and both registered and unregistered swimmers can take part.
The Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Cristhian Santana, highlighted the significance of the event's return, stating, "The recovery of this race after eight years is great news for Telde and for all open water swimming enthusiasts." He encourages athletes to participate, recommending the necessary physical preparation to complete the course safely.
The swim maintains its free and solidarity-based nature. Each participant must bring one kilogram of non-perishable food items when collecting their race number and cap, scheduled for Sunday between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. The collected goods will be donated to Cáritas Diocesana de Canarias to support vulnerable families.
The organization has arranged a safety deployment that includes course marking with buoys, chip timing, sea assistance, and civil liability and accident insurance. The top three finishers in the overall male and female categories will receive trophies, and all participants who complete the course will receive a commemorative finisher's gift.
The Department reminds participants that this is an open water event, requiring adequate physical preparation for safety. With this 17th edition, the Telde City Council aims to enhance its sports calendar, link sports with the promotion of the coastline, healthy lifestyles, and solidarity.
