The Villa de Teror Munchitos boat, led by Gustavo del Castillo, claimed victory in the Opening Contest, the first race of the 2026 Canarian Lateen Sailing season in Gran Canaria.

The 2026 Canarian Lateen Sailing season commenced with the Port Authority – Las Palmas Port Foundation Opening Contest, which also served as the first event of the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup. The race took place with a consistent 13-knot wind, providing excellent conditions for the competition.
The Villa de Teror Munchitos dominated the day from start to finish, recording a time of 1:06:42. Despite a slight grounding near Lady Harimaguada after passing the Castillo de San Cristóbal buoy, the boat maintained its lead and crossed the finish line in first place.

The 'Teror' dominated from the start, setting its pace even after suffering a slight grounding near Lady Harimaguada after passing the Castillo de San Cristóbal buoy, an incident that did not prevent it from maintaining the lead until the finish line.

The battle for subsequent positions was intense, with Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas surprisingly climbing from second-to-last to secure second place, just 18 seconds behind the winner. The podium was completed by Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, finishing 1 minute and 11 seconds after the victor.
Other boats such as Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz and Spar Guerra del Río engaged in one of the closest battles, separated by barely a second. With these results, Villa de Teror Munchitos is positioned as the first leader of the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup, earning one point in the overall standings.
Canarian Lateen Sailing activities will continue this Sunday with the start of the Aguas de Teror Championship, the most significant competition of the boat season, promising more excitement and challenges for the crews.
