The twentieth edition of the Macan Half Marathon was successfully held at the facilities of the Gando Air Base. The competition, which started promptly at 9:00 AM under favorable weather conditions, attracted 1,056 runners across two distances. One of the races, the 7-kilometer event, served as a qualifying round for the Rector's Trophy, aimed at students from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).
The event's organization, managed by personnel from the Gando Air Base and the company Top Time Eventos, was praised for its efficiency. The sports infrastructure, timekeeping, and logistics were highlighted, ensuring a traffic-free circuit without complications for the participants.
In the men's category, a runner from the Master+40 category claimed the overall victory, completing the course in 1 hour, 19 minutes, and 43 seconds. He overtook a worthy rival who had led the race at several kilometer points but was surpassed at the 16.65 km mark. The second place went to this competitor, with a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes, and 51 seconds, while the third place was secured by another runner with 1 hour, 20 minutes, and 25 seconds.
In the women's competition, a runner dominated the race from start to finish, unchallenged by any rival. She crossed the finish line with authority, recording a time of 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 10 seconds. She was followed on the podium by two other athletes, with times of 1 hour, 42 minutes, and 21 seconds and 1 hour, 45 minutes, and 45 seconds, respectively.
The day also featured the XII Gando Athletic Lap, a 7-kilometer race, where a runner from UAVA and a female runner triumphed in the military category. Additionally, the III Trisomy21 Inclusive Race was held, with the participation of the Trisomy21 Association. The awards ceremony was attended by various military and academic authorities, including the head of the Canary Islands Air Command and the rector of the ULPGC.
