The Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated the process to declare Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a Tensioned Residential Market Area, opening a period for objections.

The Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI), has submitted for public information the file to declare the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the island of Gran Canaria, as a Tensioned Residential Market Area. This measure is taken at the request of the city's City Council.
This agreement opens a period for interested parties to consult the documentation submitted by the City Council and formulate any objections they deem appropriate before administrative processing continues. The period for these consultations and objections will run from Thursday, October 15, to Thursday, November 12.
The documentation will be available on the Public Participation portal of the Government of the Canary Islands. Objections can be submitted electronically through the form provided on the portal. Individuals can also submit them in person at the registration offices of the Government of the Canary Islands or through other administrative procedures.
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria formally requested the Government of the Canary Islands on January 20, 2025, to declare the entire municipal area as a tensioned residential market zone, following a preparatory procedure initiated on May 10, 2024. The complete documentation was submitted on March 12, 2026.
After analyzing the provided information, the Canarian Housing Institute issued a favorable report to continue with the processing and submit the file for public information. The procedure is governed by Decree-Law 1/2024, of February 19, on urgent measures in housing matters.
Once the public participation process is concluded, the Canarian Housing Institute must analyze and respond to all submitted proposals before definitively resolving the file.
