Agoney Rodríguez Roque, a member of the Pegasus Weightlifting club in Arinaga, has been crowned the Canary Islands Junior Champion. This achievement grants him direct entry into the upcoming national championship in the sport.
Cristhian Santana Caballero, the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, extended his congratulations to the athlete. He highlighted that "being crowned Canary Islands champion and securing a spot in the Spanish Championship is a source of pride for Telde and recognition of the hard work Agoney has put into his sporting career." Santana wished him "great success at the national event, where he will have another opportunity to showcase his talent and continue growing as an athlete, carrying the name of Telde to the highest level."
The regional competition, held at the Pegasus Training Center facilities in Agüimes, brought together over 50 lifters from six clubs across La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, underscoring the high level of weightlifting in the Canary Islands.
In the men's category, Agoney Rodríguez Roque claimed the regional title. He shared the podium with Tenerife lifters Aday Gámez and Eduardo Acosta, who secured second and third place, respectively.
Rodríguez will now face the national challenge on November 14 and 15 at the Os Remedios Sports Pavilion in Ourense. The competition is organized by the Royal Spanish Weightlifting Federation and will feature the top junior weightlifters from across the country.
