This prestigious award, part of the traditional Spanish Air and Space Force Awards (Premios Plus Ultra), annually recognizes individuals who excel not only for their sporting achievements but also for embodying fundamental values such as effort, perseverance, self-improvement, and camaraderie.
The ceremony for the 47th edition, which commemorated the Centenary of the Great Flights and gathered nearly 600 attendees, was presided over by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Chief of Staff of the Air and Space Force, Air General Francisco Braco Carbó, along with significant representation from the Spanish aeronautical and space industry.
The recognition of Doroteo Martínez López highlights a notable sporting career, particularly in marathon and ultra-distance events, where he has competed in distances up to 280 kilometers. Martínez López, who also serves as a second lieutenant in Wing 46 at the Gando Air Base, balances his military career with his passion for sports.
Cristhian Santana Caballero, Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Telde City Council, praised the award, stating, "This national recognition highlights not only Doroteo's sporting career but also his commitment to values that perfectly represent the spirit of sport in Telde." He added, "It is a source of pride for Telde to have athletes like him who carry the name of our municipality and its clubs to the highest level, serving as an example of effort, perseverance, and self-improvement for all citizens."
