The sports sector of Telde has been honored at the 2026 Canary Islands Sports Awards with distinctions for Rocasa Gran Canaria and its coach, Dejan Ojeda. The women's handball team was recognized as Best Team, while Ojeda received the Technical Direction award.
Rocasa Gran Canaria concluded an exceptional season by becoming champions of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola for the second time in their history, after defeating Super Amara Bera Bera in the final. They also began the 2026/2027 season by winning the Supercopa Iberdrola, again triumphing over the same Basque team.
Dejan Ojeda, at just 27 years old, has been recognized for his work as one of the emerging figures in national coaching and the youngest coach in the Women's Honor Division. Under his leadership, the team has achieved these significant titles.
The nominations were submitted to the Directorate General of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands by a jury of 32 communication professionals specializing in sports information, with representation from all islands and chaired by Norberto González of Radio Nacional de España.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 13, 2026, during the Canary Islands Sports Awards gala, to be held at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Telde City Council, Cristhian Santana Caballero, expressed his satisfaction with these recognitions, which highlight the trajectory of Rocasa Gran Canaria and Dejan Ojeda, consolidating the municipality's position in the elite of national handball.
