The Local Energy Community “El Rosario Solar” was a protagonist at the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026, held in Brussels, being presented as one of the success stories from the Canary Islands in the fight against energy poverty.
The president of the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), María Concepción Brito, highlighted during her participation in the meeting “The role of local authorities in the European response to energy poverty” the potential of this local-level model to move towards a fairer and more sustainable energy transition.
The mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, was also present at this European event as a member of the FECAM Executive Committee. The mayor emphasized the recognition given to the municipal project: “It is a pride for El Rosario that an initiative born in our municipality becomes a benchmark in a European forum of this relevance, demonstrating that from the local level we can promote real solutions that favor energy savings, sustainability, and the well-being of our citizens”.
This event, held every October in Brussels, is considered the largest European event dedicated to urban and regional development. It brings together policymakers, experts, and professionals to share experiences, best practices, and proposals. The presence of “El Rosario Solar” signifies recognition of the municipal work towards a more sustainable, participatory, and accessible energy model.
