In an emotional ceremony, the Dean of the ICATF, Mila Pacheco Pérez, presided over the oath of 26 new legal professionals. The event was attended by prominent judicial, political, and social authorities and took place in the Chamber Hall of the Auditorium of Tenerife Adán Martín.
The Dean welcomed the newly admitted lawyers, reminding them of the importance of their profession, which goes beyond knowing the law. She pointed out that lawyers will accompany people through difficult times, listening to their problems, concerns, and injustices. She emphasized that often, people need a real solution, not just a legal procedure, and that how they are made to feel is as important as the outcome.
Pacheco Pérez highlighted the new Law on Procedural Efficiency as a way to listen and negotiate better, urging the new lawyers to be approachable, honest, rigorous, and humane. She stressed that reputation is built not only on knowledge or victories but also on how people are treated, and that the memory of how someone was made to feel endures over time.
The Dean wished the new lawyers professional success, but above all, that they never lose empathy, honesty, and dignity, and that they can look back with pride on the person they have become.
During the ceremony, the careers of lawyers with 25, 40, and 50 years of professional practice were also recognized, highlighting their vocation, sacrifice, and commitment. The Dean took the opportunity to reiterate the call for solutions regarding the RETA bridge situation, which affects professionals with long careers.
The IX ICATF Award was presented to the President of the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, an award chosen by the members themselves. Additionally, the title of Dean of Honor was awarded to Carmen Pitti García, recognizing her career, commitment, and affection towards the institution.
Finally, Mila Pacheco Pérez defended the legal profession as essential for defending the rights, freedom, and dignity of individuals, emphasizing that, beyond laws, procedures, and courts, the profession is about people, and its value lies in the honesty, humanity, and dignity of those who practice it.
