The new Padre Anchieta pedestrian bridge in San Cristóbal de La Laguna is now open, replacing surface crossings to eliminate the risk of accidents and reduce traffic jams by up to 20% on the TF-5.

This significant ring-shaped infrastructure aims to enhance road safety and traffic flow at one of the island's most congested access points, used daily by over 50,000 vehicles and 20,000 pedestrians.
According to the insular director of Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, the bridge will optimize travel times for most users. For instance, the journey from Avenida Trinidad to the Faculty of Biology is reduced by one minute, from 5 minutes and 31 seconds to 4 minutes and 26 seconds, covering a shorter distance.
The route from Geneto to Avenida Trinidad is the only one experiencing a slight time increase, about 40 seconds more, due to the structure's design.
The bridge, designed by Fhecor Ingenieros Consultores and built by OHLA, features a 314-meter-long, 100-meter-diameter metal ring weighing 525 tons. The project's final investment was 13.1 million euros. It includes a protective visor against wind and an integrated LED lighting system.
The opening of the structure has sparked various humorous reactions on social media, with comments from students and residents comparing the walk to the Camino de Santiago or joking about the crossing's duration.
