The special operation, which supplements the regular service, includes an increase in human and material resources in areas expected to have a higher concentration of people, such as the port area, the maritime avenue, and Plaza de España.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted the historical significance of the event and the desire for the city to present its best image. "We want the city to present its best image. Therefore, we have reinforced the cleaning service to ensure that the spaces where the events will take place are in the best condition before, during, and after the visit of Pope Leo XIV," he stated.
For his part, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Municipal Public Services, Carlos Tarife, recalled the importance of citizen collaboration and thanked the cleaning team for their efforts. "I want to thank in advance the effort of the cleaning team, who will be deployed before, during, and after the visit," he added.
The operation will involve 32 reinforcement workers and additional mechanical resources, including a sweeping truck, a high-pressure cleaning unit, two sweepers, and a waste collection vehicle.
